What is PDR technique?

Paintless dent repair (PDR), also known as paintless dent removal, describes a method of removing minor dents from the body of a motor vehicle. A wide range of damage can be repaired using paintless dent repair as long as the paint surface is intact. Paintless dent repair may be used on both aluminum and steel panels.[1]

Can a dent be pulled out?

First, heat the dent with the hairdryer approximately six inches away for about 30 seconds. Then cover the dent with a piece of aluminum foil and rub dry ice over it. The rapid change from hot to cold should make the dent pop out within a minute or so. Another temperature trick involves boiling water.[2]

Does dent repair tool work?

Dent pullers only work on shallow dents that are positioned on a flat, flexible surface. They can improve the appearance of car dents but are unlikely to create a perfect finish. Unfortunately, DIY dent pullers will not work on deep, angular dents or damage along the edges of bodywork.[3]

How much is a PDR?

Though paintless dent repair is a cheap way to get good looking results, the price can vary a lot. For small dings, it may cost between $75 and $125. For larger damage that can be repaired, such as collision dents, it may cost between $150 and $450.[4]

How good is PDR?

A good PDR technician (often called a “dent doctor”) can achieve an 80% to 99% repair on most small dents. So, you have to be realistic. 100% dent removal is unlikely.[5]

Can boiling water fix a dent?

Use boiling water Simply boil water in a teapot, protect yourself from burns with rubber gloves, and have a pot of cold water on hand. Then, pour the hot water from the teapot over the dent. Before it cools down, pop the dent out from the inside.[6]

Can a crease dent be fixed?

Crease Dents — These dents are typically more complex and time consuming. They are more likely to stretch your vehicle’s metal. However, that doesn’t mean they cannot be fixed via paintless dent repair. With the advancement of tools and technology, creases are no longer the threat to PDR that they used to be.[7]

Can you remove sharp dents?

Heat the affected area with your dryer, heat gun, or hot water. Less severe dents may pop out on their own with the application of enough heat. If the dent won’t pop out, use a suction cup or rubber mallet to pull or gently hammer the dent out.[8]

How big can dents be repaired?

Most minor dents can be repaired by the dent repair experts at Dented so long as the paint is still intact, and the dent isn’t too complex in nature. Since paintless dent repair can remove 80-90% of dents, it is the best way to get a dent out of your car.[9]

Are all car dents fixable?

Larger dents can cost considerably more. And know that not all dents can be perfectly repaired, even by a specialist—and if the paint is scratched they can do nothing about that.[10]

Does boiling water remove dents in metal?

Unfortunately, this technique can be used only on plastics, which can be reshaped by using heat. Metal does not respond in the same way to heat as plastic does. So, do NOT attempt to fix metal dents with boiling hot water.[11]

Do suction cup dent pullers work?

They can improve the appearance of dents but probably won’t create a perfect finish. But these tools will not work on deep, angular dents or damage along the edges of bodywork. Dents in areas of thick metal will also be very difficult to remove at home.[12]
